Acquaintances started with Chris Wilson passing through Chicago on tour, and meeting up with longtime friend Justin Sinkovich. They both agreed to start a band despite Chris living in Philadelphia. After recruiting the rest of the members Justin, Jered Gummere, and Steve Schmidt wrote songs, sang, and played guitar for an album recorded and mixed in Justin’s basement with Chris on drums and Patrick Morris on bass. The response to the self-titled self-recorded album was super positive with coverage in publications like Rolling Stone and Spin plus many other publications in North America and Europe. As the bands reputation grew, Steve moved to Portland, so Acquaintances took a break.

Acquaintances regrouped over the past year with Justin and Jered writing all of the songs. A second album was recorded in Chicago with Steve contributing guitar on a majority of the tracks remotely from Portland. The first LP was recorded and mixed by Justin in his basement with the band figuring out their direction. The second LP was recorded by Justin in their new better sounding warehouse practice space, and mixed by Justin at home and in a studio at times. As before, Acquaintances draws from the members’ other bands, yet with its own distinctive sound which is more established this time around. Noisy guitars wash over a top-notch rhythm section, creating spaced-out garage-influenced noise rock with a slanted yet melodic sensibility.

BTW, the band name came to fruition while recording the first record. They were labeling MP3’s of songs in progress as “Acquaintances” to share in the cloud, while they were all in and out of their basement space without ever rehearsing or recording all together. Now they are playing together, and shows are confirmed with more in the works.
